Clyde Butcher
Clyde Butcher is another American Photographer who specialises in landscape photography, he travels to different parts of the world/ different parts of America and photographs the beauty of the world. Clyde has many different cameras that he decides to use, these are 12x20 Ron Wisner, 11x14 deardorff, 8x10 deardorff, 5x7 deardorff, 4x5,Wista, 4x5 pinhole and a few more. One of this quotes is "I try to use the largest film possible for the particular subject I'm planning to photograph, so if i have a huge, broad landscape, I will use the 12x20 view camera". This means that he will be able to photograph as much as he can and show the beauty he is trying to get across. The pictures below are some of the few favourites that I have from his work. All of these photos are shot with his large 12x20 format camera and this is why there is a lot in the photo. The last photo from below is the best and my favourite from the ones I have selected. The focus in this picture is ecstatic and there is a lot of focus with the mountains in the background and this is why I enjoy the photo, He uses natural light with the photo, although it is difficult to tell what time of day it is within the photo, I believe it to be sunset because the front of the photo is quite dark and could be lighter where the back of the photo is well light and looks amazing. There are not many mid tones throughout this photo it is dominated by light tones and dark tones. The trees at the front are dark and the flowers throughout are dark too, where as there is complete contrast to the back where it has a light tone and its very light at the top of the mountains and the back trees, although there is a complete contrast in tones I believe this makes the photo better because it makes the viewer look how different the photograph is. This has inspired me to try and use a large format camera and take pictures of landscapes and try and recreate the complete contrast in tones to see if I can make it as good. I feel very happy and warm when I look at this photo because of the beauty if shows off, it inspires people to go around the world or the country they live in and try and find sceneries just like this and try to photograph the same things. You get the sense off overall joy when looking at this photo and many of his others and I want to try and recreate this, from all the photographers I have looked at he does not have the same images as others photographs, his landscape photos are one of a kind and this is why I researched him and why I'm inspired to try and recreate his work.
